#37: Aaron & Tocarra Robinson - Still I Rise
Monday Mar 28, 2022
Monday Mar 28, 2022
Still I Rise is a dynamic and innovative leadership development non-profit that empowers youth and young adults to create a positive change in society. The Kankakee County Chamber of Commerce presented Still I Rise with Non-For Profit of The Year Award in 2021. I thought it would be a good time to get to know the couple behind the hardworking organization, Aaron & Tocarra Robinson. We had a great conversation about how Still I Rise started and how we should all be more open minded in the community. Outside of Still I Rise, Aaron & Tocarra publish Consciousness Magazine and write their own music under the name, Tocarra.

#36: Women’s History Month - Kankakee County Museum
Monday Mar 21, 2022
Monday Mar 21, 2022
It's that time of the month where we are joined by staff members of the Kankakee County Museum to talk about a particular subject in our county's history. We are lucky enough to have both Jorie Walters and Jack Klasey join us on this episode to celebrate Women's History Month. Jorie and Jack introduce us to three very important women in our county's history: Fannie Still, Eva Minor, and Mary Gallagher. Still was the first curator at the Kankakee County Museum. Minor was the county's first female attorney and Gallagher owned the Gallagher School of Business.

Monday Mar 14, 2022
Monday Mar 14, 2022
Hey there! It feels so great to be back in the saddle of releasing new episodes of Kankakee Podcast. After being off for two and a half months, it's time to get back to business. Thank you for patience.
I'm excited to welcome one of Kankakee County's most well known singer/songwriters and musical performs, Matt Yeager! Matt walks us through his humble beginnings of playing in punk rock bands as a teenager to his present day band, The South Side Social Club. Yeager was even kind enough to perform one of his original songs for us.
If you're a paying Kankakee Podcast Patron of $20 or more per month, you can hear an extended version of this episode that includes an additional original song from Matt:

#33: Travis Garcia - School Resource Officer
Monday Dec 27, 2021
Monday Dec 27, 2021
I'm pleased to welcome the very first police officer to be a guest on Kankakee Podcast, Travis Garcia. Originally from Indiana, Travis made his way here about ten years ago and started working for the Bourbonnais Police Department. It wasn't too long after he started patrolling the streets that he became the School Resource Officer for Bourbonnais Elementary School District 53. There's no doubt in my mind that Travis is one of the most dedicated police officers in our county. I'm truly grateful we have someone like Travis working with our children to help make their futures brighter. Thank you for all you do, Travis!
Much Love,

Jake LaMore Reads The Polar Express
Tuesday Dec 21, 2021
Tuesday Dec 21, 2021
I want to take this time to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting Kankakee Podcast and LaMore Media L.L.C. in 2021. I’d like to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Growing up, one of my favorite Christmas books to read was The Polar Express. Now, the tradition continues with my son who is even more obsessed with it than I was. I know several people who listen to LaMore Media podcasts also have children. So my gift to you and your family this Christmas is to read aloud The Polar Express to you.
Much Love,
Jake LaMore

#32: Dawn Broers - Fortitude Community Outreach
Monday Dec 20, 2021
Monday Dec 20, 2021
Fortitude Community Outreach is a grassroots nonprofit in Kankakee County that provides emergency shelter, street outreach, transitional housing, and workforce development for the homeless. The backbone of this wonderful organization is founder, Dr. Dawn Broers, PhD, LCSW. Dawn and I had a great conversation starting from where she grew up in Indiana to what the future holds for Fortitude Community Outreach. And from what she tells us, it sounds like a very bright future is ahead for the organization! That is, as long as we as a community continue to give them the support that they need.
To learn more about Fortitude Community Outreach, make a donation or to become involved, visit FortitudeCommunityOutreach.org.
Thank you for all you do for our community, Dawn! It does not go unnoticed or unappreciated.

#31: Jack Klasey - The Storyteller
Monday Dec 13, 2021
Monday Dec 13, 2021
Jack Klasey is a man of many talents. Excuse the pun but I would say he's a, "Jack of All Media". I've always considered him to be a one of the greatest Kankakee County Historians but as I learned during this episode he prefers to be known as a storyteller. Whether you know Jack from the Kankakee County Museum, his weekly column in The Daily Journal, or from the many books he has written, I'm sure you've enjoyed his stories just as much as I have. We've been extremely lucky to have Jack Klasey as a resident of Kankakee County since 1963.
Purchase Jack's latest book, The Prince of Wheelwrights, at the Kankakee County Museum gift shop, or on Amazon.
Much Love,

#30: Riverview Historic District
Monday Nov 29, 2021
Monday Nov 29, 2021
One of the most beautiful neighborhoods in the Kankakee County is without a doubt the Riverview Historic District in the city of Kankakee. This district is filled with unique custom built homes and many of them are over 100 years old. You want to see inside these homes, don't you? It just so happens that this Sunday, December 5th, 2021 is the Annual Riverview Holiday House Walk. Nina Piolatto, June Boisvert, and Joan Germano join me on this episode of Kankakee Podcast to tell us all about it. They were even kind enough to give me a ticket to the house walk this Sunday. Thank you all so much! I'm extremely flattered and can't wait to see you there.

#29: Native American Heritage Day 2021 - Kankakee County Museum
Friday Nov 26, 2021
Friday Nov 26, 2021
Hey! I hope you had a great Thanksgiving filled with lots of love, food, family and friends. With today being the day after Thanksgiving, most of us are thinking about it being Black Friday. However, there is a more important civil holiday we should be celebrating today, Native American Heritage Day. Veronica Featherston of the Kankakee County Museum, presented me with the rare opportunity of hearing from two people who are educated on the Native Americans who once lived in our area. Adam Minton, the Conservation Education Representative for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources at Kankakee River State Park and Koria Manning, a representative from The Anishinaabe Nation: Three Fires, also known as The Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi. Adam also brought along his little friend, Sprocket, who is a domesticated raccoon. Thank you for stopping by!
